Day 24-27 Squirrel Creek To Pinedale, wy

Day 24 Squirrel  Creek to Colter Bay campground. Today we rode 52.28 miles and had 3163 ft of elevation gain. We crossed into Wyoming  today. We started out on pavement  but it soon turned into gravel with 35 miles of pot holes and wash board. You would come into shade and before  your eyes could  adjust you hit a pot hole. Colter Bay was great with hiker biker campsites  for $6 a person. We got settled  in in went for a dip in Jackson Lake. It was perfect  swimming  temperature.

Day 25 Colter Bay to Falls campground. We rode 44.02 miles and had 3228 ft of elevation gain. We were on pavement  all day as we made the 17 mile climb over Togwotee Pass. We saw a momma Grizzly and two cubs off in the distance after we went over the top. Falls campground  was lovely. We asked a fellow camper if they might have a spare beer. They responded that they were Tequila drinkers. I said me to. She soon brought over the rest of their Tequila as a gift. It was much appreciated.

Day 26 Falls campground to Mosquito Lake.  Today we rode 47.37 miles and had 3455 ft of elevation gain. We climbed Union Pass. We made it to a elevation  of 9650 ft. We were told it was all down hill to Pinedale  after Union Pass. Once again  bad information.  The road was full of pot holes, rocks, and wash board with lots of climbing. We made it to Mosquito Lake where we Dispersed  camped. When we were about to leave camp the cows were being driven  by riders on horseback though  our campsite.

Day 27 Mosquito  Lake to Pinedale,  Wy.  Today we rode 50.25 miles and had 945 ft of elevation gain. The first 12 miles was down hill but the road was so bad  with baby  head rocks and wash board that we had to walk in several  places. Our average  speed  was only 1 mph faster then the day before when we climbed. Finally back on pavement and then the headwinds began to blow. It was a hard push into Pinedale. We got a room for the night. We got showers and did laundry.  We met Emma and Brian for dinner and beers at Wind River Brewery. We have caught  them several  times and ended at the same  spot.

  1. 50 and 65 miles a day seems like a lot.
