Day 23 Red Rocks campground , Id to Squirrel Creek Guest Lodge, Id
We rode 65.7 miles and had 3264 ft of elevation gain. Our ride started out on pavement, but soon went to a closed road. It was overgrown but still rideable. We got back on pavement to Big Springs, and chose to ride the Fish Creek alternate route. The route had several miles of fine gravel that was like you were ridding on the beach. We met riders that had just descended from the climb that gave us bad information about water on the climb. We climbed to the top at 7711 ft and started coming down looking for a water source that did not exist. We ran out of water until we were down from the climb and able to filter more. We had planned on tent camping at Squirrel Creek but we were told they had to much bear activity, so we got a cabin for the night. The owner had a brown bear in the kitchen this morning. Great stop, good food, and cold beer.
