Day 13 Seeley Lake, Mt to Lincoln, Mt

 We rode 57 miles and had 2800 ft of elevation gain today. We got on the trail in Seeley Lake. The gravel  roads are much better then the backroads of Canada. We had one 2.75 mile climb that took us over 6000 ft. We had a light rain and it got chilly up there. Saw lots of deer including  a doe and her fawn. The downhill  to Ovando  was long  and fast. We ate our lunch there then got on the highway to Lincoln,  Mt. We wanted to beat the rain so we choose the fast way. We had our first A-hole roll coal on us in his big diesel  pickup.  We are staying at the Lincoln Log Cabin. Soon after we got  our bicycles  inside it started to rain. It has rained most of the night. There's  a 90% chance of over a half inch of rain predicted for tomorrow. We are taking a rest day.

    It looks wet and cold ~ so glad that you have a place to stay other than a tent, to wait out the rain storm

    Rick, I'm really enjoying your journey since I've ridden this part of Montana. I rode with you on your last cross country trip east out of Moline with Paul Gilbert.

    I live down near the border, and you might want to spend the next 3 months or so in Montana and Wyoming since it's blazing hot down here and you won't like it.

 The ride today  was a sufferfest. We road 30 miles and had 2400 ft of elevation gain.  We thought  we were in great shape, riding a gravel  road all day. This was not your Iowa gravel  road, this was a Alberta  gravel road. It rained off and on all day. The road was like a mud slurry. We had a thunder storm pass over us that put us in the ditch for a while.The climbs were endless. We got to Robb hoping to score some water. We stopped at the Coal Branch Hotel. Kevin, the owner took one look at our rain soaked muddy clothes and told us we were staying there tonight. He let us wash our bikes then fed us this wonderful pork roast dinner. We have more of the same conditions  tomorrow. Not many  pictures  today,  we were to cold and wet .

My next adventure starts in a month

 I will be starting my next adventure, the Great Divide Mountain Bike Ride, with my High School friend Doug Hirsch. We are leaving Jasper, Alberta, Canada on June 15th on our way to Antelope Wells, NM on the Continental Divide. The route is 3000 miles with 200,000 vertical feet of climbing on 90% gravel and single track. I will just have turned 70 a couple of days before our adventure begins.  I hope you will follow along on this epic ride.

Day 32 I have been extracted from the ride

(anonymous) WelI, I don't know how many of you have figured out I had to stop my adventure in Rawlins, Wy. I can't even express how sad I am to tell you I have abandoned the ride. Betty made the 2 day drive to Rawlins and picked me up last Saturday.  I have been struggling with a saddle sore for about 3 weeks. I kept on riding hoping it would just go away. The dirt and gravel roads we have been on for the last 5 weeks have been full of potholes and wash board. Lots of the bumps sent a pain through the top of my head.  The ride into Rawlins had big headwinds that made it almost impossible to stand and get a butt break. It has been like that for the last 3 days. I had to stop several times and get off my bike to give my butt a little break. Doug is riding strong and was miles ahead of me. I know he will wait for me, but I don't think it's fair to hold...
