Day 48 Vienna, Va to Dunkirk, Md

 Day 48 Vienna, Va to Dunkirk,Md 55 miles The day I spent at Dave's was spent planning the last two days  of my ride and my trip back to Spokane. I am taking the train home leaving Washington DC  on the 25th. Dave took me to his favorite  bar the Vienna  Inn and he took me out for a couple wonderful  dinners. I was not surprised  to find Point beer from Wisconsin  in Dave's  refrigerator. I took his Beagle  Skeeter for a walk and chased him all over the house. I rode on several different  trails today through Washington DC. I saw the Washington  Monument and the top of the White House. There was lots of traffic so no pictures of DC. The whole 55 miles I  never felt I was out in the country. I was lucky enough  to meet yet another trail angel Gary Schmidt on Facebook. He is giving me a ride across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge  in the morning. I'm staying  with  Gary and his wife Jan tonight. Gary has had some great adventures  of his own so we had lots of pictures to share and stories  to tell. We had a great dinner and yummy  dessert. Now if I  could just  get their Beagle  Willow to warm to me it will complete  my stay. One more day, it's  getting real.

    ONE more day - wow!!! I see tears in your future and can’t wait to see the tire dipping in the Atlantic. We were wondering how you were getting across Chesapeake Bay. Glad I did t bet money as I thought you might take a ferry🤣 Wishing you perfect conditions for your last day ~

    Dinner, desert, warm bed, nice dog...and a ride across..? Better buy a PowerBar ticket too while you're at it.
    Hopefully the fires up Spokane way are out by the time you get there.

 Day 50 Harbeson, De to Rehoboth Beach, De 17 miles. My morning started out with a great breakfast from my Warmshower  host Brad. His wife Ann wanted to lead me on the trails to Rehoboth Beach. She was good  company along the ride. A lot of people  on the trail greeted her by name.  Ann pointed out the back yard of skeletons . It reminded  me of a similar  scene  in Gillette, Wy. She broke off about a mile to the beach to go visit her mother. As I was just getting to the end of the road three cyclists asked me how far I  had come from. When I  told them I  was just now completing  my  ride across the country  they volunteered  to help get me and my bicycle  to the water for pictures. I had a yummy coffee then enjoyed walking on the boardwalk. I locked my bike and walked along the waters edge for quite a ways. It was nice to feel the waves crash against  my legs. My journey is over

 After riding 3650 miles, climbed 116,886 vertical  feet, and went from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. It is with heavy heart that this is my last post for my bicycle  ride across America. I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful interesting people along the way. Big and little acts of kindness that lifted my spirits. Kim and his wife that offered  me shelter and food on a rainy  day in Port Angeles. The closed bicycle  shop in Okanagan, Wa that opened  on a Saturday  morning  to replace my seat post. The Lutheran church in Havillah, Wa that provided  me shelter and food. The people at the top of Boulder Pass  that give me water when I needed it. Rodney in Lolo, Mt that shared his apple crisp. The family  that gave me and my  bicycle  a ride to Gillette, wy when my rear wheel failed.  Day 46 North Mountain to Indian Flats hiker biker campsite,  76 miles. It rained all night. I layed in the tent until about 6:30 when the  rain stopped. I have a horrible  time with tear down  and cooking breakfast, takes to long. I rolled out around 8:30 with everything  wet. Much  dryer  day and the Towpath  was much better maintained. I stopped in  Williamsport for lunch supplies  and a yummy mocha. Talked to several  people along the Towpath about my adventure. I'm  so proud  I  love to share. Staying at a beautiful  hiker biker campsite  tonight  called  Indian Flats. Great views of the river. and I'm  the only one here.
