Day 38 Rochester, IN to Muncie,In

 DAY 38 Rochester, IN to Muncie, IN 90 miles. Wow I woke up in the Eastern time  zone, it was dark at 6 Am. Tim and I  kind of split up I  was going to ride to Muncie  and he was riding  to Marion  and taking  a three day break because of weather. I rode on three different bicycle  trails the Nickle Plate trail,the Sweetser Switch trail, and the Cardinal Greenway trail. It was great to be away from traffic for so many miles. I cannot  believe  that the part of Indiana  I am riding through is so flat. I raced the weather all  day and ended up in Muncie  just before  it started to rain. It's  supposed to rain heavy tonight so Betty got me a Motel room.

    There ya go. Hotel with nice bed, shower, all ya can eat breakfast. Happy you missed the rainy weather.

    Crazy that it is dark at 6am, we're still creeping up on 5am. Enjoy the shelter, good job Betty. Audrey

    Sunrise in Muncie on 8/7 was 6:45 and in Rehoboth it was 6:07.

 Day 50 Harbeson, De to Rehoboth Beach, De 17 miles. My morning started out with a great breakfast from my Warmshower  host Brad. His wife Ann wanted to lead me on the trails to Rehoboth Beach. She was good  company along the ride. A lot of people  on the trail greeted her by name.  Ann pointed out the back yard of skeletons . It reminded  me of a similar  scene  in Gillette, Wy. She broke off about a mile to the beach to go visit her mother. As I was just getting to the end of the road three cyclists asked me how far I  had come from. When I  told them I  was just now completing  my  ride across the country  they volunteered  to help get me and my bicycle  to the water for pictures. I had a yummy coffee then enjoyed walking on the boardwalk. I locked my bike and walked along the waters edge for quite a ways. It was nice to feel the waves crash against  my legs. My journey is over

 After riding 3650 miles, climbed 116,886 vertical  feet, and went from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. It is with heavy heart that this is my last post for my bicycle  ride across America. I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful interesting people along the way. Big and little acts of kindness that lifted my spirits. Kim and his wife that offered  me shelter and food on a rainy  day in Port Angeles. The closed bicycle  shop in Okanagan, Wa that opened  on a Saturday  morning  to replace my seat post. The Lutheran church in Havillah, Wa that provided  me shelter and food. The people at the top of Boulder Pass  that give me water when I needed it. Rodney in Lolo, Mt that shared his apple crisp. The family  that gave me and my  bicycle  a ride to Gillette, wy when my rear wheel failed. Day 42 Clairsville, Oh to Pittsburgh, Pa

 Day 42 Clairsville, OH to Pittsburgh, Pa 79 miles. Beautiful  sunrise to start the day. The hills were not as bad as yesterday  but still did 2800 feet of climbing.  I finally had to walk my bike up a hill, it had to be at least 16%. I rode from Ohio to West Virginia, then to Pennsylvania. Some of the trail was pretty  overgrown. A lot  of the trails  were crushed limestone,really  hard packed. I loved  the bulldozer  art, that will be ever changing. It was nice that Larry had  a cooler of cold water next to the trail. Just in time, the last water fountain  was turned off. You can sure see that coal is king. This was not the place to talk about alternative energy. Downtown Pittsburgh  looked really beautiful. I had a Warmshower  host that talked until 11 when  I  finally  said I had to get to sleep. I'm  on the Allegany Passage  starting tomorrow.  The trail goes all the way to Washingto...
