Day25 Buffalo, Wy to Gillette, Wy

 DAY 25 Buffalo,  wy to Gillette,  Wy 71 miles. After yesterday's  climbing  today I  rode on I-90 for 66 miles instead  of the 95 mile route suggested. The ride was pleasant with long gradual climbs. I was enjoying  the yellow  flowers  along the road, which I  think is sweet  clover. The smell was amazing. It's  more then likely  a invasive  species. At about  35 miles into the day I  heard a ticking and my rear wheel had a wobble. I pulled in to a rest stop thinking I  was going to replace a spoke. Nope all spokes were intact. Damn my rear rim was separating. I started asking everyone in a pickup if they were headed towards  Gillete. Finally  a family headed towards  Gillete taking their two sons to compete in the junior bull riding national championship  on Sunday gave me a ride. They were pulling a long horse trailer and my bike and gear fit nice in the back. Once again people  can be so kind. I got to the bicycle  shop in Gillette only to find out they did not have a replacement. They could not order a new one until Monday. I called my friend Doug Hirsch in Edmonds, wa because the man can get things done. He located a wheel locally and plans on shipping  it on Monday. I'm  stuck in Gillette  until Wednesday. I thought I had a shot at making Ragbrai.  Now it's  not going to happen.

    Holy smokes...that wheel looks like one I had on my MG after a slide into a curb. I could have Captain Jack fire up the Jet and get you a new wheel tomorrow.
    Wait.....No Jet, but there was a Captain Jack a long time ago. Rats 🙃 Guess you will get to know Gillette WY better than you wanted to. Something tells me you have an incredible adventure and one on a lifetime opportunity just waiting in Gillette. 😎👍

    Well if this Doug Hirsch guy can get things done, why doesn’t he drive that wheel to you pronto? I hear he’s just hanging around the Seattle area washing people’s cars?🤣 I’m sorry about RAGBRAI!! Knowing you rode SAGBRAI, the 50th would have been a bucket list item for sure. Maybe you can go watch the bull riding competition?!?

    Rent a car after you get it fixed on Wednesday, drive to Ragbri and continue on your journey through Iowa with friends.
    Life happens! You can always make up the time in the reverse journey if you want that entire experience. Sending you safe travels ahead.

 Day 50 Harbeson, De to Rehoboth Beach, De 17 miles. My morning started out with a great breakfast from my Warmshower  host Brad. His wife Ann wanted to lead me on the trails to Rehoboth Beach. She was good  company along the ride. A lot of people  on the trail greeted her by name.  Ann pointed out the back yard of skeletons . It reminded  me of a similar  scene  in Gillette, Wy. She broke off about a mile to the beach to go visit her mother. As I was just getting to the end of the road three cyclists asked me how far I  had come from. When I  told them I  was just now completing  my  ride across the country  they volunteered  to help get me and my bicycle  to the water for pictures. I had a yummy coffee then enjoyed walking on the boardwalk. I locked my bike and walked along the waters edge for quite a ways. It was nice to feel the waves crash against  my legs. My journey is over

 After riding 3650 miles, climbed 116,886 vertical  feet, and went from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. It is with heavy heart that this is my last post for my bicycle  ride across America. I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful interesting people along the way. Big and little acts of kindness that lifted my spirits. Kim and his wife that offered  me shelter and food on a rainy  day in Port Angeles. The closed bicycle  shop in Okanagan, Wa that opened  on a Saturday  morning  to replace my seat post. The Lutheran church in Havillah, Wa that provided  me shelter and food. The people at the top of Boulder Pass  that give me water when I needed it. Rodney in Lolo, Mt that shared his apple crisp. The family  that gave me and my  bicycle  a ride to Gillette, wy when my rear wheel failed. Day 46 North Mountain to Indian Flats hiker biker campsite

 Day 46 North Mountain to Indian Flats hiker biker campsite,  76 miles. It rained all night. I layed in the tent until about 6:30 when the  rain stopped. I have a horrible  time with tear down  and cooking breakfast, takes to long. I rolled out around 8:30 with everything  wet. Much  dryer  day and the Towpath  was much better maintained. I stopped in  Williamsport for lunch supplies  and a yummy mocha. Talked to several  people along the Towpath about my adventure. I'm  so proud  I  love to share. Staying at a beautiful  hiker biker campsite  tonight  called  Indian Flats. Great views of the river. and I'm  the only one here.
