Day 33 Coralville to Davenport

 Day 33 Coralville to Davenport 81 miles. It's  the last day of Ragbrai. My cousin  Connie made me these yummy  pancakes and bacon for breakfast. So glad I stayed at her house. When the storm hit all the people that were  staying outside the church I was supposed  to sleep in ended up coming inside. The crowds on the road seemed to thin out a little today. I think the heat of the last couple of days made some people drop out. The route today  was flatter, only 1900 ft of climbing. The general  spirit  of the riders was good. I was able to find my Mocha in West Liberty. Chatted  with several  people today. I talked to Susie that found out I  was from Spokane, then asked if I  was the one riding across the country. Turns out she'd met my friends Allison and Alvin earlier  in the week. Best part I  was her mailman  in Kendall Yards, small world. I got my last serving  of Beekmans  ice cream  before Buffalo.  I got to the dip site and Paul Gilbert  was waiting  for me. We got the picture  of wheel dipping, then he lead me back to his house.

    Congratulations Ricky and Lil Stoker! Was there a party following at the Gilbert’s or a couple of cold beers, a shower and crash?😄 I never heard if there was a Bad Decision Day and did you ride the Karras Loop? Perhaps that’s just a Mothership Event…. Hopefully that crazy heat is behind you for the rest of your journey to the Atlantic🤞

 After riding 3650 miles, climbed 116,886 vertical  feet, and went from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. It is with heavy heart that this is my last post for my bicycle  ride across America. I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful interesting people along the way. Big and little acts of kindness that lifted my spirits. Kim and his wife that offered  me shelter and food on a rainy  day in Port Angeles. The closed bicycle  shop in Okanagan, Wa that opened  on a Saturday  morning  to replace my seat post. The Lutheran church in Havillah, Wa that provided  me shelter and food. The people at the top of Boulder Pass  that give me water when I needed it. Rodney in Lolo, Mt that shared his apple crisp. The family  that gave me and my  bicycle  a ride to Gillette, wy when my rear wheel failed.  I cooked my last home cooked meal tonight. It was grilled copper river salmon, shrimp, mushrooms,  and Fettuccine  Alfredo. The Rav is packed, I'm ready to go, I'm  standing here outside your door, already I'm so lonesome I could cry.  Day 50 Harbeson, De to Rehoboth Beach, De 17 miles. My morning started out with a great breakfast from my Warmshower  host Brad. His wife Ann wanted to lead me on the trails to Rehoboth Beach. She was good  company along the ride. A lot of people  on the trail greeted her by name.  Ann pointed out the back yard of skeletons . It reminded  me of a similar  scene  in Gillette, Wy. She broke off about a mile to the beach to go visit her mother. As I was just getting to the end of the road three cyclists asked me how far I  had come from. When I  told them I  was just now completing  my  ride across the country  they volunteered  to help get me and my bicycle  to the water for pictures. I had a yummy coffee then enjoyed walking on the boardwalk. I locked my bike and walked along the waters edge for quite a ways. It was nice to feel the waves crash against  my legs.
