Day 19 Twin Bridges, Mt to Cameron, Mt
Day 19 was from Twin Bridges, Mt to Cameron, Mt, 54 miles. I have camped for several nights with Pella from the Netherlands. He is a navigator on a cargo ship that goes all over the world. He is at sea for 4-6 months then he has 4 months off. He plans to spend the whole time bicycling America. After drying out my rain fly from the sprinkler incident I rolled out. I only made it to the main street of Twin Bridges and stopped at the local coffee shop for my triple 16 Oz mocha. You know as you go flying down the road and a historical point of interest sign pops up you just drive right by? Today I stopped at every one of them. I learned that in the late 1800's and early 1900's 40 billion dollars of gold, in today's market, was dredged out of the ground along Ruby creek. The dredges tore through the ground and left big long piles of rock that are still there today. Passing through Nevada City then Virginia City a lot of the buildings were still the same as in the late 1800's. Total tourist trap. I stopped for lunch in Virginia City at Bob's pizza, the cashier gave me two slices for $5. She said I was going to need the extra slice to get up the hill. The climb out of Virginia City is not even labeled as a pass. I climbed 6 miles, gained 3000' and topped out at 6900'. I flew down to Ennis then on to Cameron where I'm spending the night. I have a lovely patch of grass behind the office of a Rv park. I have a shower, wifi, all for $20.
Hey.....I think that Virgina City area was the same one from BONANZA...? Ok...maybe not. Tally ho 🏜
ReplyDeleteHope the pizza powered you through, they look like pretty decent slices! Audrey
ReplyDeleteI don’t know if that’s a sunset or a sunrise but it’s a fabulous picture! Ricky, Ricky - a sprinkler incident?? Do I dare say that’s a rookie mistake? Again, yanking your chain. 6 miles up and elevation at 6900 is a PASS in any book so mark it as one✔️ The mining stories all the way through that north to south line into Nevada is fascinating. You’re a guy after my own heart stopping at every marker….
