Day 13 and 14
Day 13 Whitefish to West Glacier. 35 miles started off with another broken spoke. I rode into Whitefish and found a bicycle shop that actually prioritizes their repairs. I walked a round Whitefish and drank a good mocha. There was a painting on a wall that looked like Betty's tattoo. They had me on the road in a little over an hour. The Adventure Cycling route had me on back roads all the way to Glacier National Park. Really nice with no traffic. I got to the hiker/biker site at Apgar and was informed by a ranger I needed a reservation, what? I ended up sharing a pad with a nice young lady that was only using half a pad. Thanks Marion! I went in to Apgar village, hung out, and enjoyed the views from Lake McDonald.
Day 14 West Glacier to Ronan, Mt, 91 miles. I thanked Marion and said goodbye as she rolled out to Kalispell. I made my way on a trail from Glacier to Columbia Falls, then on to Big Fork. Big traffic jam there for a 4th of July parade. I traveled on Hwy 35 on the east and south of Flathead Lake. I'm staying at a wonderful campsite in Ronan,Mt called Diamond Rv and camping. They have set aside a ice grassy area just for riders like me. They have showers. WIFI, and a kitty that came by several times for some love. The wind has picked up a lot and fireworks are going off all around the campground. It could be a bumpy night.
That certainly must be a 4th of July to remember..we also recently traveled Eastern Utah for hiking, Rafting and site seeing and found a reservation entry was needed. Ended up going to Canyonlands instead.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe Rick...leftover fireworks are still out there.😱
I thought you were riding Highway to the Sun but perhaps that would be idiotic with all of your gear!?! Did you take a dip in Flathead Lake? Looks very inviting - wishing you tailwinds for awhile!
