Day six Mazama, Wa to Okanogan, wa

After a great night with our Warmshower host the 5 of us took off on our own. I might not see them again. It was a beautiful  ride to Winthrop where I  stopped for a mocha. Winthrop  is hosting  a Norton motorcycle gathering  this weekend.  There are over 250 old, loud, 2 cylinder Nortons all over Winthrop. After Twisp,Wa I  started climbing Loup Loup Pass. After taking a break, getting back on the road with all 100lbs of bike I  crashed and split the seat tube. A little road rash on my knee and some duct tape to hold the seat straight and I  was off again. The pass was a challenge, 3000 feet of climbing with no flat spots. About half way up there was a cooler on the side of the road with a sign on it that said bicyclist cold water. There were bottles of cold water in the cooler,  I  took two. Getting into Okanagan, wa I talked to a local that called the owner of the closed bicycle shop and arranged  a new seat post to be installed in the morning. He also directed  me to a city park to camp for the night with free showers.  I'm  enjoying the city park with a river moving by.

    1. I clipped in and as I was transitioning from gravel to asphalt my tire hit the asphalt lip and stopped me, no time to unclip.

  2. Glad you lived. More importantly, I'm glad the bike is OK. Be safe out there and enjoy the scenery.

  4. "Split the seat tube" -- is that a simple replacement or does it total the bike?

Glad you weren't hurt badly! Take care my friend - thinking of you.

  5. We LOVE the ride from Mazama to Winthrop! I hope you were on the back road and not the highway!? Bummer about your crash but consider it out of the way now, checked that box and the rest of your trip will be smooth✔️👍. We have also skied Loup Loup and must say I’d rather drive that Pass than ride it - you’re a strong man Ricky!!!
