Day 3 bicycling across America, Port Townsend to Razar State Park

 Today  started off with breakfast  with my daughter  Glenna. I was so happy to spend time with her. I caught  the Whidbey Island ferry and off I  went, 77 miles today. It was cold all day, never any sun breaks, and a little drizzle. Highway  20 on Whidbey had some pretty non existent shoulders for a bicycle.  Deception Pass was cool, I  used the whole lane to cross the bridge.  Cycling  trails would start then just disappear. I'm  staying  at Razar  State Park tonight.  They have three hiker/biker campsites, I'm  the only one  here

    Hey....I know that area. Recently spent a few days on Camano Island with friends of my wife. Included was a tour around the Islands and across that very bridge. I remember the roads dropped off fairly quickly and I can confirm not codusive for pedal bikes.
    Carry on your journey Rick. Probably won't have much sunny days until you get away from the coast.

 After riding 3650 miles, climbed 116,886 vertical  feet, and went from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. It is with heavy heart that this is my last post for my bicycle  ride across America. I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful interesting people along the way. Big and little acts of kindness that lifted my spirits. Kim and his wife that offered  me shelter and food on a rainy  day in Port Angeles. The closed bicycle  shop in Okanagan, Wa that opened  on a Saturday  morning  to replace my seat post. The Lutheran church in Havillah, Wa that provided  me shelter and food. The people at the top of Boulder Pass  that give me water when I needed it. Rodney in Lolo, Mt that shared his apple crisp. The family  that gave me and my  bicycle  a ride to Gillette, wy when my rear wheel failed. Day 39 Muncie, IN to Dayton, OH

 Day 39 Muncie,IN to Dayton, OH 94 miles. I woke up to a heavy overcast. I left the comfort  of the motel about 8:30 with a little chill in the air. The winds were quite heavy all day. At least it was either a cross or a tail wind for the most part. I rode on the Cardinal Greenway trail  for a lot of the day. It's  the longest trail in Indiana. It must  look amazing  in the fall with all the leaves changing colors. I was in Amish  country a good part of the day. No buggies on the bike trail. I thought the church looked cool, it could use a little TLC. It was built in 1903. Google maps for bicycles keeps me  on great secondary  roads and bicycle  trails. My Warmshower  hosts Heath and Joyce in Dayton are great. They fed me and gave me a couch to sleep on. I even became buddies with their dog Josie.

Day 50 Harbeson, De to Rehoboth Beach, De

 Day 50 Harbeson, De to Rehoboth Beach, De 17 miles. My morning started out with a great breakfast from my Warmshower  host Brad. His wife Ann wanted to lead me on the trails to Rehoboth Beach. She was good  company along the ride. A lot of people  on the trail greeted her by name.  Ann pointed out the back yard of skeletons . It reminded  me of a similar  scene  in Gillette, Wy. She broke off about a mile to the beach to go visit her mother. As I was just getting to the end of the road three cyclists asked me how far I  had come from. When I  told them I  was just now completing  my  ride across the country  they volunteered  to help get me and my bicycle  to the water for pictures. I had a yummy coffee then enjoyed walking on the boardwalk. I locked my bike and walked along the waters edge for quite a ways. It was nice to feel the waves crash against  my legs.
